As a student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and International Trade, I have had the opportunity to engage with a diverse and dynamic range of coursework. Language-oriented classes: Spanish
SPAN 3020: This course, conducted entirely in Spanish, offers an in-depth exploration of essential grammatical concepts while encouraging students to enhance their writing skills. Through engaging presentations and exposure to advanced readings, students will deepen their understanding of grammar and apply these principles in structured essay formats. This class is designed to foster mastery of grammatical concepts and empower students to express their ideas effectively in written Spanish.
SPAN 3060: this course focuses on the intricacies of business practices in Spanish-speaking countries. Students engage in exams, presentations, and collaborative projects that deepen their understanding of professional cultures and trade agreements across various regions. This immersive experience enhances language proficiency while providing valuable insights into the dynamics of international business in the Spanish-speaking world.
SPAN 3160 : This course, conducted entirely in Spanish, emphasizes dynamic discussions to enhance language skills and expand business vocabulary. Students gain insights into the legal frameworks governing business in Spanish-speaking countries. A key component of the course is a semester-long project where students create and develop a business concept tailored to a specific Spanish-speaking market. This hands-on approach is particularly beneficial for those planning to study or work abroad, providing essential skills for navigating the global business landscape.
SPAN 4160: Taken abroad in Argentina, this immersive course focused on the diverse business customs and practices across Argentina and other Latin American countries. I gained a comprehensive understanding of the professional culture in Argentina, which greatly facilitated my internship experience. Additionally, the course provided valuable insights into the continent’s history, exploring key events from the Jesuit era to the military junta and contemporary developments. This knowledge enriched my perspective on Latin America as a whole, equipping me with the cultural and historical context essential for success in the region's business environment.
Culture and Literature Courses
LAIB 4000: Language and International Business Internship: This mandatory internship provides students with professional experience in an international company either in the United States or abroad. I completed my internship at Briste, fulfilling the requirement of at least 140 hours. The course, LAIB 4000, spans three credits, with students having the flexibility to register for one or two credits during the internship and complete the remaining credits while writing the internship report in the target language. This experience allowed me to apply academic knowledge in a practical, global business environment.
LANG 3030: Study Abroad: This course facilitates the transfer of academic credit for courses taken abroad during an approved study program. In my case, I participated in a department-approved program in Córdoba, Argentina. The course required a minimum of two contact hours per week over 15 weeks, offering flexibility to explore topics outside my concentration. Taken on a Pass/No Pass basis, the course was designed to integrate international academic experiences with my degree program, fostering cross-cultural learning and academic growth.
SPAN 3980: Directed Reading ( ARG): In this directed study course, I explored a range of topics in Spanish literature, language, and culture, focusing on the rich traditions and historical influences of the Spanish-speaking world. The coursework included in-depth readings and discussions on key literary works, linguistic structures, and cultural practices, drawing connections between classical and contemporary themes. Conducted during my time in Argentina, the course also provided a unique opportunity to engage directly with local cultural perspectives, enhancing my understanding of the material in a real-world context.

Russian 1010/1011: This course provides comprehensive training in pronunciation, grammatical structures, and syntax, equipping students with the foundational skills necessary for simple conversations and reading basic Russian texts. Portuguese 1010/1011: This course introduces students to speaking, listening, and writing in Portuguese, focusing on the sound system to develop essential communication skills. The laboratory component emphasizes interactive exercises, pronunciation practice, and immersive activities to reinforce language learning and enhance conversational abilities. Students will engage in group discussions and role-plays to build confidence in their Portuguese skills.
